The inaugural meeting of Perth SIGGRAPH was held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday the 10th September at the Inglewood Hotel, corner of Beaufort St and Fifth Streets, Inglewood. Anyone with an interest in computer graphics and interaction was welcome to attend.
The meeting was a very informal one. Greg Bruyer and Jonathan Knispel played tag-team, addressing the 50-60 people who attended. Greg and Jonathan briefly introduced themselves, then spoke a little about what they hope to achieve with SIGGRAPH Perth. Jonathan gave a summary of the ACM, SIGGRAPH and what local chapters do.
In short, our main interest is in bringing together the disparate groups of people working with computer graphics and interactive technology in Perth. Once we have established a working community, we can look at getting funding and sponsorship for projects, run workshops and other events. Eventually (or even sooner) we can look at hosting the Graphite conference.
After an brief adjournment to allow people order food and drinks from the bar attendees were treated to video footage from the 2002 SIGGRAPH conference on a big screen TV.
