December 2002 Meeting

Our December 2002 meeting as a purely social occasion in conjunction with several other multimedia and computer graphics groups in Perth. Here are the details:

Wednesday, Dec 4th.
6.00pm until late
Spirit Sound Bar,
437 Murray Street,
Perth (near Fast Eddy's, 50 metres towards the mall).

There were about 120 people there. It was great to see graphics designers talking to virtual reality researchers, lawyers rubbing shoulders with programmers and many other unlikely networking encounters. Once lucky table of people won three out of the four door prizes. The night was a great success and we'll definitely do it again next year.

The catering contribution for Perth SIGGRAPH members was generously provided by the School of Computing at Curtin University. Thankyou. Thanks also to Miles Burke for letting us hop onto his meeting bandwagon.

The other groups involved in the meeting were:

December News

2002-12-06: The long awaited online community is finally here. We also updated the look of the website.

2002-12-05: Due to very heavy work commitments, Tim Beeson has had to step down as secretary of the interim committee. We'll appoint a replacement as soon as we can.

2002-12-02: SIGGRAPH Perth has been invited to supply one of it's committee members for the ANZGRAPH committee. ANZGRAPH will represent people interested in computer graphics from Australia and New Zealand at a regional level. ANZGRAPH is hosting the 2003 GRAPHITE conference in Mebourne (11-14 Feb).

Many thanks to the School of Computing at Curtin University for helping out with the website. Thanks also to Andrew Squelch and eCentral/IVEC for providing a regular venue for our meetings. We've held the past two meetings at other venues because of their facilities, but we will return to eCentral soon. Our gratitude also goes to our speakers and the people behind the scenes who help to organise the meetings.
