Procedural Luxo: Our Experience with Houdini
Simon Linge and Nicholas Yue presented a glimpse of their work-in-progress parody of the famous Pixar lamp named Luxo Jr. Simon and Nicholas detailed the "procedural" approach to creating this work, using Houdini, a modelling, rendering and compositing environment from Side Effects Software.
Simon walked attendees through how the lamp and props are modelled and animated using the procedural technique. Nicholas will talk about the procedural shaders that were written for the animation and the lighting that compliments them. Simon and Nicholas also demonstrated Houdini as it was used during the production of the animation.
