Stelarc lived in Japan for almost 19 years. He has a general knowledge of Japanese culture and a particular interest in Sumo Wrestling. He has also met some of the leading researchers in robotics, such as Marvin Minsky, Shigeo Hirose and Susumu Tachi. He has also seen several exhibitions of Guenter Van Hagen's "Corperwelton" of plastinated bodies. Referring to these seemingly unrelated areas, Stelarc will discuss issues of embodiment, alternate anatomical architecture and identity.
Stelarc is a very enganging and entertaining speaker. He is one of Australia's leading artists working at the nexus of art and technology. Stelarc is currently Visiting Professor at the School of Art and Design, Nottingham Trent University and Adjunct Professor at the School of Contemporary Art, Edith Cowan University.
